Taking Business Personally

This topic is deeply personal. My relationship with Planned Parenthood started when I was a teenager, seeking safe and supportive healthcare to discuss my health and birth control options. It was the beginning of a lifelong relationship.

Since then:

- I've attended education sessions

- Spent hours making phone calls

- Marched and shouted so many times to advocate for human rights

- Wrote letters to Governors, Congress + Senate Representatives

- Donated financially

I did it for myself, for my daughters, and for every person who needs to know their body and choices matter. It is disturbing and infuriating that my daughters have fewer rights and less access to healthcare today than I did at their age.

And now? I get to call Planned Parenthood South Atlantic a client- providing strategic direction and support to a mission I’ve believed in my whole life.

Today, Planned Parenthood experiences defunding, threats, and misunderstanding of who they are, yet they continue to show up. They provide healthcare, education, and advocacy to and for millions of people across the United States.

PPSAT is resilient, committed, passionate, and clear in its direction, with a refusal to back down. Grateful doesn’t even begin to cover how I feel about our partnership!

My hope is that we continue to show up for them, advocate for one another, and lead with heart, no matter the obstacles.

As you think about your own life and organization heading into 2026, pause and ask:

- Are we clear on who we are?

- Do we have a direction and clear goals that align with our purpose and values, no matter what?

- Do we have the support and reinforcement mechanisms in place to overcome obstacles?
